Luciënne Venner is a queer experimental filmmaker, singer and performance artist from Limburg, the Netherlands. Her work explores female queer identity and desire through analogue film, focusing on movement and personal transformation. She avoids heavy dialogue, preferring to collaborate with actors to convey emotion through choreography. The music used in her films are also written by her. The movie Silent Heat (2021) led to a full album.

Luciënne’s films have been shown at international festivals like Art Rotterdam and the Brooklyn Film Festival. She has won awards such as Best Art Film at Nahia Film Festival (Spain) and Best Experimental Film at Porto Femme (Portugal). In 2023, she was selected for the Apichatpong Weerasethakul Playlab in Mexico, where she later created Reunión. Her projects are supported by the Netherlands Film Fund, Mondriaan Fund, and others.

About the art

Silent Heat

Luciënne works with analogue film like Super16mm where she limits herself to using limited filmstock; such as shooting her movie Error of Eros in a single take, with only three chances, treating each shot with the focus of a high-stakes performance. This approach creates a special tension on set, where every moment counts. Embracing imperfections as part of the narrative, she uses them to deepen her intimate storytelling.

Driven by a mission to broaden representation, Luciënne brings diversity both in front of and behind the camera. Her work showcases a spectrum of bodies and identities, carving out spaces where queer stories are not just visible, but vibrantly celebrated.
